A scrap car quote is not a guess. It starts with what your vehicle weighs, multiplied by the current scrap rate, and goes up from there if the car has parts we can resell. This page shows you exactly how we arrive at a figure, so you know what a fair offer looks like before anyone calls you back.
How we work out your scrap car price
Two numbers set the floor. The first is the kerb weight of your vehicle, which you can find in the manufacturer's data; newer V5C logbooks show a similar figure as "mass in service" in section G. The second is the scrap metal rate, which moves with the world market: our guide rate is currently around £80 per tonne for cars, vans and commercials. Multiply the two and you have the weight-only value. A 1,300 kg family car at £80 per tonne is roughly £104 before anything else is considered.
Then we look at what can be salvaged. Because we run our own car breakers and used parts operation, a complete car with a working engine, gearbox, catalytic converter and alloy wheels is worth more to us than its weight, and that is reflected in the offer. We make our best offer first time rather than starting low, and we are happy to explain how we reached it.
Indicative scrap car values by vehicle type
These are weight-only starting points at our guide rate, so you can sanity-check any quote you are given. They are not fixed prices: complete cars regularly come in above the band, and the rate itself changes with the metal market.

What raises or lowers the offer

One thing that does not lower it: distance. We do not dock the price for a long run. We group collections into routes instead, which is why a firm collection day in Aberdeen or Glasgow may be a few days out while the price stays the same. Tell us honestly what has been removed and the figure we agree is the figure you are paid. If another licensed dealer has given you a genuine written quote, we are happy to price-match a reasonable one.
How and when you get paid
It is illegal to be paid cash for a scrap vehicle in Scotland under the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015, so anyone offering cash is breaking the law and leaving you without a record. We pay by bank transfer at the point of collection, the same day, and you get a receipt. Keep the yellow V5C slip and tell the DVLA yourself, online or by post, because the keeper can be fined £1,000 if the DVLA is not told; the rest of the logbook goes with the car, and a Certificate of Destruction is issued by the Authorised Treatment Facility once it is destroyed, so you are no longer liable for it. If you have lost the V5C, or the car is in a relative's name, say so when you get your quote: the paperwork is still straightforward and our scrapyard page walks through every case.

How much is my scrap car worth?
Start with the weight. At our guide rate of around £80 per tonne, a typical family hatchback of 1,200 to 1,400 kg is worth roughly £96 to £112 on weight alone, a 4x4 or van more. Then add the parts value: a complete car with its catalytic converter, engine, gearbox and alloys still fitted is usually worth more than its weight, and our quote reflects that. How is a scrap car price calculated?
Kerb weight multiplied by the current scrap rate sets the floor, and resellable parts add to it. We run our own breakers and used-parts operation, so a car we can break for parts is worth more to us than one that only has metal value. Distance does not reduce the price: we group collections into routes rather than docking your offer.
Is the quote fixed once we agree it?
Yes, provided the car is as described. The figure we agree on the phone is the figure paid on collection. The only time it changes is if parts have been removed or the condition is materially different from what we were told, which is why we ask you to be straight with us about missing catalytic converters, engines or batteries.
Do you charge for collection, admin or paperwork?
No. Collection is free everywhere we cover, there is no admin fee, and we walk you through the DVLA paperwork: you keep the yellow V5C slip and send it in yourself. The quote you are given is the amount that lands in your bank account.
How and when am I paid for my scrap car?
By bank transfer at the point of collection, the same day. Cash payment for scrap vehicles is illegal in Scotland under the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015, so we never offer it, and neither should anyone else. You receive a receipt, you send the yellow V5C slip to the DVLA yourself, and a Certificate of Destruction is issued by the Authorised Treatment Facility.
Will I get more if my car still runs?
Often, yes. A running car with a clean engine and gearbox has more resale value in parts, and some models are worth more to us as a repairable salvage vehicle than as scrap. Tell us whether it runs when you request your quote and we will price it accordingly.
